This paper presents the innovations introduced in the design of the composite bridge – steel and concrete structure – over the Luembe River. These innovations are part of the Africa Bridge project, whose objective is to adapt the traditional composite bridge solution to bridge construction in Africa. Finally, an economic study is presented comparing the composite solution resulting from the Africa Bridge project with a solution using precast concrete girders.
